Self-Editing - Yep that's a skill I don't have...

...at least when it comes to party planning. Morgan is scheduled to have her "kid" birthday party next weekend and that means I have been in planning (i.e. over-analyzing, re-thinking, mega-coordination) mode to get everything together. I have many ideas, some of which are definites, some of which have been redefined and questioned. I know it is just a party for five-year-olds but it is her very first kid party and I want it to be amazing for her. Plus, I kind of live for this stuff - even though I over-think so much my head has the potential to spin in a 360 sometimes, ha ha...

The theme this year is "Hannah Montana Rock Star Party".  We (okay I) started with princess party - oh the ideas I had - but she wanted the HM theme instead and it's her party so that is the theme we ran with.  Invitations went out on Monday and I was a bit behind because I decided I would make the invites for two reasons  - a) to save money and b) I just really like the feel of custom invites. I made these by designing the "information card" with all pertinent info on the computer (plus my hand-writing is HORRIBLE) and then pasting onto heavier construction paper - cut with scallop scissors. I put them in CD envelopes and placed Hannah Montana stickers on the outside. I think they turned out well - however in retrospect I am not sure that I saved a ton of money in
 the end.

We are having the party at my parents house because they have a lovely back yard, perhaps they wish it was not so lovely and attractive in times like these :-); I do not have to worry about transporting stuff, have plenty of set up time, and the number of kids does not effect the price. Plus birthday places are really pricey these days - like REALLY pricey. And, I think she is at the perfect age for a back yard - play party. So far on the agenda I have:

* rented a bounce house - kids LOVE bounce houses and it gives them a constructive place to go crazy; (on a side note I investigated buying a bounce house and yeah, no - they are way expensive as compared to my 3-hour rental charge, so we shall proceed with renting).

* decided upon my "areas" to include, a bubble area - kids love bubbles so why not - and rock stars love pink and purple ones, a dress up station complete with bracelets and gem tattoos so everyone can get their rock star look on, and then I am going to cover the tables in butcher block paper so they can color / draw whatever they like all over the tables.. I'm also going to put out some sidewalk chalk, hula hoops, and balls just for additional fun.

* a STAGE. I pretty much have to have a stage area. Still working out the sound component - but my intention is to have Hannah, High School Musical, and Camp Rock songs so they can sing and perform all they like (or not if they do not like)..

* Games - put the wig on Hannah (double stick tape is so much safer an idea - hopefully it works) and a pinata pull.

* Food is still in the works for me, but think craft service table experience - yogurt tubes, string cheese, crackers, etc... and when talking to Morgan last night I think we are going to go with popsicles for the treat. I was on the fence about cupcakes or ice cream and just did not know which to choose. In the end I like the popsicle idea a lot - it should be warmer that day and only at home can you provide popsicles as they do not transport well at all. Plus she'll have cake on her actual birthday so it'll be nice to have something different.

This is the plan so far... we shall see the exact end result - still time for editing (either by choice or necessity)... ;-)
