Dinosaurs, Dragons, and Dancing Alligators

Here's what I have decided (among many, many things)... I have sat around thinking about how I would like to be able to stay at home with Morgan, how lucky other people are to be able to spend the days with their kids. My problem has been that in thinking about this I have boxed myself in to the "I work, therefore I can not" category - but this is just not so.

Yes, I work - but we still have the afternoons and weekends; my recent idea will take extra effort and commitment on the part of this mommy, but it's SO worth it.  Plus, with summer program in full swing she is not doing as much curriculum as before. And, I will not act as though I am some saintly parent mucking through the world of curriculum development. I do actually love coming up with ideas and one of my favorite classes was PreK curriculum development.

When we were picking out books at the library on Saturday I started thinking - she is going on field trips next week, one of which is to a museum and the emphasis is on predators and dinosaurs, so..... why not bulk up the learning at home too. We asked the librarian for assistance and found many, many, many books on dinosaurs - and some alligators and dragons (but they're closely related I think). I also found a sing-a-long tape with dinosaur songs. And, wouldn't you know while we were at the grocery store they happened to have a cookie/sandwich cutter that makes bronto shapes - how perfect. This is a slower start but still it has gotten the ball rolling.

Next week is Science Discovery and I am super excited because I just found a science experiment with colors and milk that I want to do with her. Saturday will be my day to think on it, find some books, and plan. My hope is that I can tag on some extra learning - but also have time with her all while doing fun things she loves.

(I really, really like the blog linked above, she has great ideas - many that I plan to use!)
