Bangs...

Morgan was WAY overdue for a haircut (or in her case a trim) so on Sunday we headed down to Snip Its to take care of her hair.  I asked her before we went how she wanted her hair to be this time which lead to the discussion of bangs. She said she was tired of her hair being in her face all the time (and well, so am I.... ) and that she wanted bangs - she folded her hair up on her forehead to demonstrate - her only other request is that she also wants her hair to flip on the bottom.

...and so became her new hair cut...

she thinks her bangs are "SO COOL" and walked into class this morning to inform her friends that she had gone to snip its to get her hair cut. :-)  She also had a visit to Claire's (a jewelry / hair accessory store) where she found a lip gloss travel kit - it has 7-8 different squares of very light lip gloss. This morning I found her standing beside me putting on her "makeup" and I could only think - oh lordy...

Zing Zang Zoom....

It all started at 5:30 a.m. - well, at least for me. We had tickets for an 11 a.m. circus show in Sacramento and given all the many potential traffic stall-worthy variables we knew an early departure was necessary. Morgan got a small reprieve and got to sleep until 6:15 - we worked with the have jammies will travel concept and I brought along clothes to change into.

For anyone who knows me - I have major hang ups and control issues about driving but on this day my dad was at the wheel and I sat quietly as a passenger (and I was actually without backseat commentary today). I think two things made this possible, a) it was WAY early and b) I was only two days into antibiotics for bronchitis (Morgan has sinusitis so we make a fine pair) - so playing passenger was quite in order.

We met up with auntie Ellen at her house and she, my mom, Morgan and I all headed to the Circus - Ringling Brothers Zing Zang Zoom circus to be exact. I am not sure why I am always surprised, but of course upon arrival there were flashing, spinning, "must have" items everywhere and a very interested little girl. Morgan chose a spinning wand - the big plus I can give it is that it takes normal batteries and can actually be a working wand for a long time to come.
The circus was good overall and Morgan liked it. She was especially interested in all of the animal acts (she really liked the tigers but I just can't love it) they were the only animals that looked really unhappy and honestly I secretly hoped one of them would paw the animal trainer - just one good swap would have been in order. :-) She also really wanted to see a person get shot out of the canon & she got to see not only one but two people projected into the air!

(pictured above is probably the most expensive snow cone EVER.... it has a cup you "get" to keep... ah, have to love the "trappings" of kid events... in fact I have to think that's where the word trappings generated from - parents getting trapped into purchasing.. ha ha ha)

BYE BYE BABY SEAT....

Bye Bye Baby Seat... those were Morgan's exact words when we purchased her brand new "big girl" car seat this afternoon. I had said that after she was 5 she could switch into a booster seat and with Kindergarten less than two weeks away the time has arrived.  She was so excited I knew I had to ask the cashier to open the box and right there in the parking lot I put together her new seat, which thankfully was fairly simple.

It was definitely time for an upgrade, from the pink and purple colors to the dual cup holders - she is lovin' her new car seat!

The S Word...

I'm not exactly sure what started her thinking of "bad" words - but somehow it was a topic of the evening.

M: Mama, do you know any bad words that start with I?

Me: No... I don't think so

M: Hmmmm.... There is a bad word that starts with S though.

Me: (in my head immediately thinking of the S word I know) - ummm yeah there is a bad word that starts with S.

M: yes.... do you want me to tell you it?

Me: (in my head again reminded of the "S" word and thinking - do I answer yes or no here?) Uh - I guess.

M: ...... Shut Up.... it's a bad word huh? people shouldn't say it - it's in my Martha book...

Me: (HUGE relief!!!!) Yes, that IS not a nice word at all is it.

On a side note I still don't know why the author threw that word in the story - it's like large on one of the pages - the owner is saying it to their dog that talks - why they could not just write BE QUIET I do not know... at least she knows it's not the best word choice and I am thankful that is the only "S" word in her vocabulary at the moment.

Mrs. Clean

This is Morgan's doll house.. So clean, so neat, everything in it's place... somehow she never wants to apply these same cleaning and organization skills to our actual house... maybe someday. ;-)

The Ants Went Marching One by One....

...right into the trailer. We were scheduled for a camping trip this weekend, however the ants had other plans and decided they too wanted to set up shop in the trailer. We originally delayed camping for just Friday night - but it became clear that one night would not be enough to rid the trailer of the chemical warfare waged against the uninvited guests.  The spot at camp was already reserved, resulting in the decision to still go up to the lake for the day - holding an abbreviated version of a camping trip.

We spent a good part of the day at the lake. I was pleasantly surprised to see Morgan opt to swim for a bit as the lake water temp. took some getting used to.

Afterward we returned to the camp site. Morgan utilized the natural tree balance beams, we had dinner, and then finished off with some smores before heading home. I can not deny the fact that it was super nice to come home, take showers, and settle in for a Saturday night movie followed by sleep in our own fluffy comfortable beds. It was a good way to have the best of both worlds out of one day.

Band Aid Addiction

My little Ms. Morgan has an addiction - to Band Aids! To her band aids cure anything and everything wrong with you - I guess it doesn't hurt that they have extra special designs and patterns (plain band aids will not do).  This morning she came in (VERY EARLY) -

(m) mama.... mama... my pinky finger itches.

(me) huh....

(m) my pinky finger - it itches real bad.

(me) well... just scratch it.

(m) NO..... I need a band aid.

(me)  just go get them out of the cabinet. (yes I was still asleep and therefore had my lazy mommy moment)

(m) ok..

followed by cabinet door opening, and many (I mean many) band aid packaging sounds.  After she was done she crawled into bed. No less than 1 minute later - "mama, my finger STILL itches".

I started to explain that it still itched because band aids, as much as we might want them to, do not actually cure itching.  Then, I looked at her finger - holy band aids batman! She had bandaged herself with at least six band aids on one pinky finger - the entirety of her finger - so much so that it looked like she had a cast on for a broken appendage.

Our next step (other than giving in to the fact that it was time to wake up) was to remove all the band aids and then commence scratching her finger.  I guess next time I should just bite the bullet and wake up! :-)

Memories... Found in the Corners of My Room!

I was looking through a box in my room last night and came across an envelope of photos taken of Morgan when she was about 6 months old.  I LOVE these photos for two reasons. 1. I am a huge fan of black and white prints and 2. I am also a HUGE fan of my baby girl and love remembering her little chubby cheeks and her many many expressions...

Lunch Theater on a Sunday...

Today we had one of our Sunday lunches. A Sunday lunch for us involves an eatery of Morgan's choice - with the main emphasis on eating inside. She loves to eat inside - even if it's a trip to Starbucks she wants to pick a table and drink her chocolate milk inside. Today her place of choice was McDonald's. Part of the reason was that she loves the chicken nugget and the one we went to also has an indoor play area (also, one that doesn't make me think she needs a full antibacterial wash down after playing in it).  I think we set a record for hanging at a fast food place (for us anyway).. we were there for about an hour and a half between eating and playing. She was also super excited about the toys they had today - they are giving away beanie babies at the moment and the guy who helped us granted her request of getting a puppy one.

In addition to her play time she also got the "let's make a video" bug. So for your viewing pleasure - Morgan's tableside theater...

1950s When They Dressed Like???

Today at school was 50's dress up day. When the morning got started I mentioned it to Morgan like she should know - you know Morgan, the 50s... Well... in actuality she did not know and pretty much had to take my word for it.

This is what we threw together...

Animal Crackers in my Soup

During our weekly library trip I perused the children's CD collection and found a CD from John Lithgow that included Marsupial Sue. Of course this meant we had to get it and check it out. I can say Morgan is quite happy we did - she likes many of the songs and sings along now. There are some super fun songs - my favorite line is from "Animal Crackers in my Soup" it goes - "when they're inside me where it's dark - I walk around like Noah's ark...." love it! ha ha ha

I am happy she likes it, but can I just say that to me John Lithgow's voice does not lend to tons of listening. Luckily it's a work / school week and so our car rides are short! I actually did not realize that animal crackers was a song originally sung by Shirley Temple - I kind of think I could handle her voice a bit longer... maybe I'll try and hunt that down.

For the Love of Body Art....

Morgan went to one of her best friend's birthday this weekend and part of the party festivities was face painting. Morgan had her turn and when she turned around I saw that she had chosen to have her face painted as a dog. On this round she had the eye, nose, and mouth done - but it did not stop there. About 10 minutes later she was back to have the face painter add some spots AND then after another 5 - 10 minutes was back yet again - this time for a rainbow on her arm.

There was conversation about potential future artistry appearing in a permanent fashion on her body. I realized after we had left that not only did she show a love of the body art BUT she also chose a tattoo barbie (you can add stickers to the barbie and or fake tattoos to your skin) as the gift to give - hmmmm...Maybe she'll just really be into make up... :-)
