Hat Day

Today it is snowing - pretty much all day! It is also hat day at school (and last day before break). :-)

A snow day is a good day for hats.

Weekly Blessing - Week 22

SWIMMING GRADUATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This week Morgan graduated from a Polar I to a Polar II which means she:

Did her back float independently for more than 10 seconds

Could find her way to the wall and climb out of the pool

Swam with a perfect "arrow"

Used her "big arms" independent of the barbell

Swam at least 25 feet on her own

AND.... took her "big breaths" while swimming!

That last one is the big one, that last one is what sent us back 3 months after she choked on water trying to do it the first couple of times. But she did it, she worked through it and now she graduated.

They make a big deal when kids move up, they ring a big cow bell and everyone claps for them, they get a ribbon, etc.. and in Morgan's case your teacher spins around and gets REALLY excited that you did it.

She was so proud, I was so proud... Congrats my Polar II!!!!

Weekly Blessing - Week 21

For this week... A child who loves crafts as much as I do and adds that special touch to her work (most the time).

Morgan is a good student. She cares about school and her work, although upon occasion argues the importance of certain tasks (usually the boring and monotonous ones), but with most things she does her best and likes to make it special (if allowable).

This week one of her homework assignments is her "100 day project". They celebrate their 100th day of instruction in school and for her it is this Wednesday.

As part of this celebration each student is asked to bring in a project using 100 of the same item in whichever way they choose, the only stipulation was to have it on a board, or paper plate, etc... i.e. no dioramas for this one. First we started with the concept. I am a HUGE fan of the concept process (probably goes in line with my love of planning) anyway... we came up with a few ideas and she picked her favorite:

100 SWEDISH FISH

But fish need somewhere to swim and so we provided them a background. I put glue on the pieces she chose and handed me, she placed where they went and when all was said and done we have:

At first I thought we would be spending last night painting the foam core, but low and behold our ocean-theme foam pieces kit (that I found in clearance at Walmart) had a background already provided. Could not have been more perfect and without paint to dry she finished her project early - no homework tonight!

On a side note, we found out our dog likes swedish fish, which is odd because she likes very little people food other than meat and cheese. She came over and sniffed our dish of fish, after about a minute she selected a fish and decided it was tasty. Needless to say I think it was somewhat painful to sit over the project and watch all these delicious fish being placed before her, none of which she could eat. About mid-way through she moved away to lay down and ignore us and our inedible project. :-)

ATL Picts

Our lovely friends in Atlanta sent us some pictures from our trip! We had the best time...

I wish we lived closer, or that airline tickets were not so expensive - but I'm glad we get the chance to visit now and again.

Gallery Post - Hipstamatic Elephants

We have an app on the iPhone called Hipstamatic, it alters your photos to replicate the style of old camera lenses from 60s / 70s / 80s depending on what you pick. Morgan is quite in like with the hipstamatic. Below is her recent work, Elephants!

No we did not go on safari - we have an elephant video and she paused frames to take pictures.

Cookie Time!!!

That's right... It's officially cookie pre-order time.  I know most of you are far away, but if you would like to order cookies to donate we have that option. We may also come down in March at some point, if we do I'll let you all know and we are more than happy to bring some cookies along! :-)
